This print is usually found in either inlater states, with an approximation of Wren's St Paul's replacing the old building destroyed in the Great Fire of London, or in foreign copies with a Latin title. This early state, still with Aveline's name in the publication line, is very uncommon. [Ref: 11094] £2,500.00 ($3,850 • €3,025 rates)

London, 1723, 560 x 950mm A rare view of London taken from the unusual viewpoint of Greenwich, with the Royal Observatory on Flamstead Hill in the foreground. With a 42 point key below. [Ref: 9214] £6,000.00 ($9,240 • €7,260 rates)
PROBST, Johann Fredrich. [C18th Prospect of London] London. Augsburg, Probst, c.1730. Two sheets conjoined, total 370 x 1140mm. Some minor restoration. A fine panorama of early C18th London engraved by Friedrich Bernhard Werner. Stretching from Somerset House east to the Tower, it has a seventy-point key in English repeated in German and Latin. Above the map is the title on a banner and the Royal Arms and the City Crest. In 1711 an act was passed calling for the creation of fifty new churches to replace those lost in the Great Fire: nearly forty churches are named here. Also shown is the Monument to the Fire built by Wren 1671-77, for many years the highest isolated column in the world at 202 feet, with a staircase of 345 steps. On the Thames are examples of the various boats using the river, with London Bridge dividing the river craft from the ocean-going vessels. The Bridge itself is resplendent with houses; however it is not clear whether the view represents the bridge burnt down in 1725 or its replacement. The houses were finally cleared in 1756. A rare item. [Ref: 9354] £6,000.00 ($9,240 • €7,260 rates)
